Civilization

This was my Major Art Project for 2014 HSC in Visual Arts. I came up with this idea after I had seen everything that had been happening in the Middle East and in Eastern Ukraine. I am of Middle-Eastern descent, but Australian born, so I could emphasize with the situation as many of my relatives still live in the Middle-east. I selected the title "Civilization" because to me this is what the world has seemed to of become, constant warfare, over land, power, and resources, men fighting each other and for what? The sanctity of life seems to be worth something to the big corporations and so called "leaders", but to me there is no and there cannot be a value put on life! And constantly being reminded of it in the news, internet, and radio just makes it all the worse.

-Material Composition-
Standard Canvas Print. I used Watercolor with Pencil (HB thru 8B) as well as Artline Pens to embolden the look of the structures. The images show a variety of landscapes torn apart by warfare, abandoned by their previous occupants. I used photos taken from combat zones to create these images; The works I did freehand (minus the outline of the strucutres) I also didn't use the full photographs, so as to add to the feeling of wear and ruin. It took me approx. 5 months to finish the images with a nice Oak Frame, and all I had to do then was lay it out for the inspectors :]
